Summary: Invictus which means undefeated in Latin, is a movie that portrays mostly about the apartheid in South Africa and how one tournament changed all that and united the people. Directed by Clint Eastwood, this movie does not shadow away in terms of the quality of actors where world class actors such as Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman are included to make Invictus a show to watch this December.
Review:Invictus revolves around a plot portraying how one tournament of football could unite a nation. Nelson Mandela played by Morgan Freeman who has been installed president of South Africa takes into the task of eliminating racial prejudice and also tension between the black and the white in the country.
Coming out from prison and taking over the nations administration and hopes wasn’t easy as Nelson Mandela has a heavy task in hand of uniting the people of South Africa into one. As the 1995 Rugby World Cup fast approaching and is being held in South Africa the situation turned worst as the only squad that would represent South Africa in the tournament is filled with pro apartheid players that are mostly white.
Mandela has realized that he has to turn this team of talented individuals into a team that represent the nation thus gaining the support of the black in the country as the tournament is one of the only hopes of helping the racial prejudice stricken nation to be as one again.
A year before the 1995 Rugby World Cup, Mandela decides to meet with the Springboks captain, Francois Pienaar (Matt Damon) and share his insight on how they could gain the nations support behind them especially as there is only one black player included in the squad about to represent South Africa in the world cup.
The team train with all their might in order to succeed in the world cup but the progress of the team is marred by some players being too influenced in the racial problems surrounding the team, thus overshadowing the urge and will power for the team to move forward. But through the leadership of Francois Pienaar they eventually put behind their differences and train for the sake of the nation and also personal pride of succeeding.
Being the underdogs of the tournament, South Africa eventually defy odds and reach the finals of the 1995 World Cup where they had to face a resilient team from New Zealand. The story reached an inspiring end when South Africa beat their opponents 15 -12, in front of a crowd of thousands that include white and blacks. Invictus is certainly a movie to be felt by the heart and to be cherished for life as it portrays how sports can unify a nation.
